Block a phone number on your Android phone
If one number won't leave you alone, you can block it. Your phone turns down calls from that number on its own.
This page is for you if
- The same number keeps calling you
- Someone you don't want to hear from keeps calling
Good to know first
Pixel and many other phones use the Phone by Google app. Samsung phones use Samsung's own Phone app, which has its own steps. Menus can also differ by carrier and software version.
Do these steps
-
Step 1: Open your call history
Open the Phone app. Tap More (three dots), then Call history.
-
Step 2: Tap the call
Tap a call from the number you want to block.
-
Step 3: Block it
Tap Block / report spam, then confirm. You can choose whether to report the number as spam too.
On a Samsung Galaxy phone
-
Step 1: Open Recents
Open the Phone app and tap Recents.
-
Step 2: Block the number
Tap the number. Tap Menu (three lines with dots), then Block. Tap Block again to confirm.
-
Step 3: Or type the number in
In the Phone app, tap More options (three dots), then Settings, then Block numbers. Type the number and tap Add (the plus sign).
Good to know
- To unblock a number in the Phone by Google app, tap More, Settings, then Blocked numbers. Next to the number, tap Clear, then Unblock. On a Samsung, go to Settings, Block numbers in the Phone app and tap the red minus sign next to the number.
- In the Phone by Google app, blocked callers can't leave voicemail if visual voicemail is on.
- Scammers switch numbers often, so blocking one number won't stop them all. To filter out likely spam, see how to stop spam calls on Android.
