Block a phone number on your iPhone

For: iPhone

Last checked October 14, 2026 against official help from Apple. Written for iOS 26 and iOS 27.

If one number won't leave you alone, you can block it. Calls and texts from that number stop reaching you.

This page is for you if

  • The same number keeps calling or texting you
  • Someone you don't want to hear from keeps calling

Good to know first

A blocked caller can still leave a voicemail, but your iPhone won't tell you about it. They aren't told that you blocked them.

Do these steps

  1. Step 1: Open your recent calls

Open the Phone app. Tap Calls or Recents at the bottom. Which one you see depends on how your Phone app is set up.

  2. Step 2: Tap the number

Tap the number you want to block. If you see an Info button (i) next to it, tap that instead.

  3. Step 3: Block it

Scroll down and tap Block Caller. Some versions call it Block this Caller. If your iPhone asks you to confirm, tap Block Contact.

Block someone from a text or your contacts

  1. Step 1: From a text

In Messages, open the conversation. Tap the name or number at the top. Scroll down and tap Block Caller.

  2. Step 2: From your contacts

In the Phone app, tap Contacts, tap the person, then tap Block Contact.

Good to know

  • To unblock someone, open Settings, tap Apps, then Phone, then Blocked Contacts. Tap Edit, tap the delete button next to the person, then tap Unblock. On iOS 26, Apple also lists blocked contacts under Settings, Privacy & Security, Blocked Contacts.
  • Scammers switch numbers often, so blocking one number won't stop them all. To quiet calls from numbers you don't know, see how to stop spam calls on iPhone.
