Privacy and our promises
Buster's promises to you
- We will never call you. Not on the phone, not on FaceTime, not on video.
- We will never ask for your password, a code from a text, or a bank or card number.
- We will never ask you to install an app that lets someone see or control your phone or computer.
- We will never ask you for money by gift card, wire transfer or crypto.
- You never need an account to get help.
If anyone says they're from The Tech Grandkid and breaks one of these promises, it's a scammer. Hang up or close it, and report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
What we collect
- What you type or say to Buster stays on your device. Buster matches your words to a fix inside your browser. We don't send it to our servers or save it.
- Talking to Buster: when you tap "Talk instead," your browser turns your voice into words. Some browsers, like Chrome and Safari, may send the sound to their maker's speech service to do this. We never get the recording.
- "Bigger text": if you turn it on, your browser remembers that choice on your device. That's the only thing we store, and it stays with you.
- Your email address, only if you sign up for the weekly scam alert. We use it to send you the email and to tell you when gift memberships open. Our email service, beehiiv, keeps the list and sends the emails for us. We never sell your email. You can unsubscribe any time with the link at the bottom of every email.
- Where you came from: our newsletter sign-up form, run by beehiiv, may save a small note in your browser about which link brought you here, so we know which places send readers our way.
We don't use ad trackers. We don't sell data. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies and doesn't follow you from site to site.
