Stop spam calls on Android with Caller ID & spam protection

For: Android phone with the Phone by Google app

Last checked October 14, 2026 against official help from Google. Written for Phone by Google app, Android 6 and up.

Your Android phone can warn you about likely spam calls and keep them from ringing.

This page is for you if

  • You get scam or robocalls every day
  • You want a warning when a call is likely spam

Good to know first

These are steps for the Phone by Google app, used on Pixel and many other phones. Samsung and some other phones use their own Phone app. If your menus look different, check your phone maker's help.

Do these steps

  1. Step 1: Open the Phone app

    Open the Phone app.

  2. Step 2: Open Settings

Tap More options (three dots), then Settings, then Caller ID and spam.

  3. Step 3: Turn on spam warnings

Turn on See caller ID & spam. Google says this is on by default.

  4. Step 4: Filter spam calls

Turn on Filter spam calls. Likely spam calls won't ring. They still show in your call history and can leave voicemail.

Good to know

  • On Android 12 and up, Google's fake call detection can warn you if a caller hides who they are or pretends to be one of your contacts. It needs the Phone by Google, Contacts and Google Messages apps.
  • To use these features, your phone may send information about your calls to Google.
