How to print from an Android phone or tablet
You can print from your Android phone or tablet without a cable. Most Wi-Fi printers work with the printing that's already built into Android.
This page is for you if
- You want to print a photo, email or web page from your phone
- Your printer doesn't show up when you try to print
Good to know first
Most Wi-Fi printers work with the Default Print Service that comes with Android, so you usually don't need an app. Menu names differ a little between phone makers. The steps show where they differ.
Do these steps
-
Step 1: Use the same Wi-Fi
Turn the printer on. Make sure the printer and your phone are on the same Wi-Fi network.
-
Step 2: Turn on printing
Open Settings. On a Pixel and many other phones, tap Connected devices, then Connection preferences, then Printing. On a Samsung, search Settings for Printing and tap it. Then tap Default Print Service and turn it on.
-
Step 3: Open what you want to print
Open the photo, email or web page.
-
Step 4: Find Print
In most apps, tap Share or More (three dots), then tap Print. Each app puts it in a slightly different place, and some apps can't print.
-
Step 5: Pick your printer
Tap Select printer at the top and choose your printer. If it isn't listed, tap All printers and wait while the phone looks for it.
-
Step 6: Print
Tap the Print button. To change the paper size or color first, tap the down arrow at the top.
Good to know
- If your printer still doesn't show up, your printer's maker may have a print service app in the Google Play Store. On a Samsung, tap Download plugin on the Printing screen to find it. Your printer's own help can also show you how: HP, Canon, Epson, Brother.
- If an app can't print, take a screenshot and print the picture instead.
- To keep a copy without printing, choose Save as PDF instead of a printer.
